Risk Management Framework

Unique Requirements for Audio Visual Systems

Although the process of  applying the RMF to Audio Visual Systems is the same as traditional IT components, it is more difficult.  There are a few main reasons for that:

  • There is a difference architecturally between what is technically possible and what is security compliant for multi-classification environments.
  • Generic STIGs need to be applied to components, due to the low production of devices specialized STIGs do not exist.
  • AV Equipment manufacturers may not have considered as part of their design the cybersecurity requirements required for DoD and IC installations.

Although members of the Information Assurance team are well versed in RMF for the core systems in their organization, they typically lack the specialized knowledge for Audio Visual systems.  This makes sense as Audio Visual or Unified Communications systems are not deployed at the same rate and scale as traditional IT components.
